Vryheid - Where you want to be!

Vryheid - Where you want to be

Situated in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, and depending on where you are going, Vryheid is the gateway to the North Coast, to Durban, to the Drakensberg, the Free State, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. It's also only a stone's throw from Swaziland, and a wonderful stopover with a wide range of accommodation and other tourism-related facilities available. You could be tempted to stay a while!

Vryheid is also a hub, and makes a centrally situated base for outings to the province's famous battlefields of Kambula, Hlobane, Rorke's Drift, lsandlwana, Blood River I eNcome, Talana and even Ladysmith and Majuba- and to the world-renowned game reserves of lthala, Mkuze, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park as well as to the Wakkerstroom birding wetlands.

Closer to Vryheid are numerous game farms and even a small reserve on Vryheid Hill itself, which claims a most interesting biodiversity. Vryheid is a destination. Once the capital of the New Republic, Vryheid is steeped in history and one of the town's museums is located in the old wood and iron parliament or Raadsaal.

There is the history, and there is the biodiversity with more than 420 species of birds identified in the various 'hotspots' around the town, the game farms and reserve. It's an agricultural centre, a revitalised mining centre, an educational centre and administrative headquarters of AbaQulusi Municipality ... actually, it's ... where I want to be!
